Greetings once again.

This is the first of a series of posts planned to provide you with useful tips on how to help your Russian bride adjust to living in America. While at first glance what I suggest in this post may seem more like it will prevent her adjustment, trust me, it’s something she’ll appreciate very much and that in itself will be helpful.

What I suggest is that, providing you have cable TV, check with your cable provider to see if they have Russian language programming available. If they do, subscribe to it.

I have Comcast and they provide a wide assortment of foreign language programming. To add the Russian language
channel costs only $15 per month. Through this, Alla is able to keep up with Russian news, as well as the arts and comedy programs. She enjoys this very much, but watches mostly American TV shows. This helps her develop her English skills, especially since I set the TV up to display sub-titles.

And by the way, the cable program guide will show that your premium language channel is “Russian TV”. It will not show what programs are actually going to play. Fear not. You can find the show listings and times written in Russian at http://www.russiantvguide.com/ The schedules are made up a week at a time, so just print it out and keep it by the TV.

Until next time, all the best for you.

Gary
