Tomorrow, January 7, is the day of Russian Christmas, with tonight therefore being Christmas Eve. In Russian cultural tradition, tonight is celebrated by having a “Holy Supper”. The tradition is that this meal will consist of 12 courses, one for each of Jesus’ disciples. And for strict Orthodox people, none of these courses will contain meat. Fish is o.k., but no meat or chicken.
So surprise your Russian woman. Let her know that you’re aware of and respect these traditions. She’ll appreciate it. If she has chosen for her life to closely follow Orthodox tradition and rules, be prepared for a veggie dinner. You can help out in the preparation of Christmas dinner. Peel some potatoes, grate some carrots, etc..(You can also offer to barbecue some nice salmon steaks.)
And keep in mind that Christmas day is a day for only 2 activities - - relaxing and/or going to church.
Enjoy the holidays,
Gary.
