Hello again from Gary with some thoughts on a controversial topic.

You’d think that for all the Internet space expended on Russian dating scams that Russian women invented the art of executing scams. Personally, I believe that particular art form was perfected long before there ever was a Russia. I don’t believe that any individual woman from Russia is any more inclined to lie, cheat, or steal than is a woman from any place else on the planet including those in your home country. So why all the fuss and attention about Russian women scams?

I think it’s because there is so much interest in Russian women in general. And because of demographics there are a huge number of Russian women available to meet and marry foreign men. So it’s a numbers game. It’s no different than anything else in life where there is a large amount of interest, be it the Internet, real estate, or the stock market. Some few will step into the game to do some thievery.

Now I’m not going to write a treatise here about Internet dating tips and safety. There’s more of that information available than you can read in years by using your search engine or visiting Amazon.com. I don’t pretend to have the skill or patience to contribute to that body of work. But common sense I do have and I offer the following to help you avoid being scammed when searching for a foreign wife.

First, be aware that many of the scams are run by men, not women. For the most part it’s men that own the foreign women dating agencies. Several agencies have been busted and their male owners prosecuted in western countries for running foreign wife dating scams of various types. So before joining and paying for a dating agency membership, do your homework. (I’ve identified and researched a couple of reputable ones that I’ll post about later).

Second, the obviously most prevalent scam is aimed at separating you from your money. Remember that the type of woman you want to marry will not come to you with her hand out. Russian women in particular have a lot of pride. They’re strong and self-reliant. So if one comes at you for money, trust that in her strength and self-reliance she comes for your money and not for you. Respond accordingly.

Third, there’s a myth that Russian women just want to get residency status in a new country , then divorce their husbands and live an easier life than was available in Russia. But statistics do not support that myth in that 80% of marriages to foreign women are successful, happy marriages. That’s not saying that some women don’t have that idea initially. And why not? Call it an option that she must consider if she ends up in a foreign country living with a jerk, or worse, an abusive slob. That’s not a scam. That’s survival. The best way you can prevent this from happening is to be a loving husband - - help her adjust to life in her new land and treat her with kindness and respect. If you don’t, or if you treat her like a “mail order bride”, you will be single again and must take ownership for your part of the failure.

O.K., I’ll close for now. Hopefully I’ve given you some “food for thought” from a slightly different perspective.

Until next time, may life bring you the best of all things in all ways.

Gary.
