Hello from Gary;

Since I am not a regular viewer of ABC News Nightline, I missed the Bill Weir August 18, 2011 special called “From Ukraine With Love.” But recently while prowling for news I found out about it, tracked it down and believe it worthy of adding to our A Foreign Affair Review.

The program was about a romance tour conducted by A Foreign Affair to Odessa, Ukraine in March of 2011.

After tracking down and watching a replay of the program, I was struck by the negativity and ignorance portrayed on this supposedly “objective” news journal.

Negativity because of how an industry, the foreign bride marriage agency business, was portrayed; and ignorance because of their use of that trash term “mail order brides.”

(Read here why I think the term was used in ignorance - - Mail Order Brides.)

Note that there was nothing negative spoken about A Foreign Affair. In fact, the program showcased some of the marriage agency’s top features such as their support for tour participants, quality accommodations, and beautiful women at a ten to one ratio for each man, etc..

But the program’s slant on romance tours and foreign brides was totally bogus and insulting to thousands of men and women who have availed themselves of the opportunities of foreign partner marriage.

I was in the process of writing a lengthy “blow-by-blow” review of the program when it occurred to me that perhaps there was mention of it on A Foreign Affair’s site.

Going there I found a write up by John Adams, President of A Foreign Affair. John’s article about Nightline’s “From Ukraine With Love” program is better written, better balanced, and from a much broader perspective than what I could put together. So I encourage you to FIRST read John’s article about the program.

Go to - - A Foreign Affair Home Page

Then click on the “abc NIGHTLINE” logo at the top right side of their home page.

His article will give you some solid background about the program.

Then you can read here the press release announcing the program.

The replay is FREE with no sign ups, etc.. However, there are ads shown during the replay, just like watching any TV program. And be patient - it sometimes loads slowly.

I’ve updated our A Foreign Affair review with this info but only via posting a date of 11-27-11 with a link to this post. This is added to item 5 on the positives list of the review.

A Foreign Affair Review

That’s it for now except to note that keeping an open mind is an aid to successful living. Learning which “authorities” to question and when helps too.

Best of everything to you,

Gary.
